A lot has happened in Rockport Maine since the last time we visited a little over a month ago. In a space that once housed various piles of wood being milled and glued now sits a beautiful boat upside down in the final stages of planking and cold molding before she is flipped right side up. Although its been over 10 years since Rockport Marine built a W.46, it seems as if nothing was lost in that time. In fact, lots of knowledge has come within that decade and new skills and techniques are being practiced on this iteration to make it the best yet.
Terry and I made a trip up to see the boat on Nov. 19th to see the progress first hand and to sit down with the design team and talk about some slight changes we have in mind such as the transverse tracks, winch placement in the cockpit, hydraulic panel locations, preliminary sail design, etc. The design team has been very receptive to our requests for modifications and both Terry and I are confident that the improvements we are adding will benefit us greatly from a boat and sail handling perspective.
Our next milestone date is January 7th, when the boat is expected to be flipped upright. Then, the interior will be installed followed by the systems.
