March Write Up

Another busy and successful month at Rockport Marine.I was lucky enough to get in a visit right before the end of the month to discuss some of the interior layout and snap some photos, although most of these pictures are from RMI.

We saw a lot of progress with the deck structure and blocking for load bear deck hardware.  The deck was built offsite and painted and we should see it installed in April.  We have seen the fantastic result of RMI's talented metals department in the fabrication of the jib up/down ferule as well as the headstay tang, both custom designed and built for this boat.

With the cockpit bin out of its mold and right side up, we were able to play around with instrument and winch locations during my visit.  Its amazing how you can spends hours on design placement on the computer but you really need it there in front of you to be able to fully visualize and realize its potential impacts.  We were able to find good solutions for some tricky placement challenges.

Moving inside, there was a lot to consider with the layout of the main saloon.  We decided on a raised paneling for the lower vertical surfaces that lines up with the overhead bookshelves.  Mocked up, this really made a lot of sense and I think will fit the feel of the interior very well.

Later in the month, we saw RMI finish up the cabin house, as well as install insulation for as well as the ice box.

Looking ahead, we have just over 3 months until the proposed launch date, so we should see a lot come together in that short period of time!

February Write Up

The team at RMI have been making outstanding progress on Nashua and show no signs of letting up.

Since the hull was turned over in January, we have seen them complete the installation of the deck beams, build the cockpit pan and seats, build the coach house, install the engine and fuel tank, complete the casting of the keel and attach deadwood, start interior construction, as well as priming and painting the anchor locker and interior.

Its a lot to list out like that, but it seems as if its literally happening that fast.  Things that are happening behind the scenes include electronics installation, radar mount construction, mast layup at Hall Spars, and sail design and initial construction with Quantum and Hood Sails.  I look forward to a visit tomorrow with much more to report over the course of the next month.
